Whisper set

A whisper set is necessary in order to interpret for smaller groups. Whisper interpreters are specialised in simultaneous translations for smaller groups, with or without technical aids. The whisper interpreter can communicate via a headset but can also be deployed next to 1 or 2 persons for personal interpreting. In this latter form of interpreting, the interpreter can still hear ambient sounds. Whisper interpreters with whisper sets are also used for guided tours.

It can sometimes be advisable to use a whisper set when interpreting for 1 or 2 people only. The interpreter is then more flexibly deployed in the room, and can move to where he or she can hear best. The interpreter can also speak more softly, the listeners do not have the interpreters whispering physically in their ear and the people around them have less problems with the general background noise inherent ot the presence of an interpreter. A whisper set can be used for groups of up to 10 people.
